SunCache Solar Water Heating
SunCache is an inexpensive ICS-type solar water heating (SWH) system developed by Davis Energy Group with support from the U.S. Department of Energy and administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). SunCache uses polymer materials to reduce cost, streamline installation, and improve aesthetics over conventional SWH systems.
SunCache development began in 1999 as part of an effort by NREL to develop polymer-based SWH systems in order to lower first costs. DEG completed SunCache R&D in 2008 after an exhaustive test program to isolate and correct any design deficiencies, with more than 50 prototype systems in the field operating flawlessly. All components have been through at least two iterations, with five generations of mounting equipment having been fabricated and tested to minimize installation time and complexity.
DEG has licensed SunCache to Harpiris Energy, a start-up company formed in 2008 by DEG employee Eric Lee to commercialized SunCache and other affordable renewable energy products.
